Poster Award

The winners of the Best Student Poster Prize sponsored by Prof. Gordon Drake are:

Laura Dreissen: High-precision Ramsey-comb spectroscopy in the XUV spectral range for tests of bound-state QED and the proton radius

Niklas Michel: Hyperfine structure in heavy muonic atoms

Andreas Weigel: The ALPHATRAP g-Factor Experiment

The precision physics of simple atomic systems provides a unique opportunity to test our fundamental understanding of nature and to search for evidence of new physics beyond the standard model. Although the community is not large, it attracts some of the most talented people on both the experimental and theoretical sides. The field provides a prime example of theory and experiment progressing hand-in-hand.

I have been an active member of that community for over 50 years, and have many fond memories. I am particularly proud to see the successes of the students and collaborators who have worked with me. I regret that I am unable to attend PSAS 2018 in person, but in my absence, I would like to sponsor two prizes for the best student posters.

A special thanks to Savely Karshenboim, Eberhard Widmann and the Local Organizing Committee for their work in carrying on the PSAS tradition. Best wishes for a successful conference.
